Dea Matrona is an Irish rock duo, consisting of Mollie McGinn and Orláith Forsythe. Both Orláith and Mollie are excellent vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. During shows, they literally swap bass and lead guitars amongst themselves between songs, as well as switch lead vocals. "For Your Sins" is their debut album from 2024.

As you can see from the genre label, Dea Matrona is not easily put in a box. From song to song, you can hear influences from all over the world. After mixing it all together in a blender, you get the sound that is uniquely Dea Matrona - and I am here for it!
Things get started right off the bat with the song Stuck on You. The drums lay down an immediate groove that drives the song along. The song is aptly titled, as by the time the chorus has finished you will have an ear worm! It's a nice one to have, as this one is definitely pleasing to the ears with a great guitar riff and smooth vocals to accompany it all.
The album moves right into the upbeat Stamp On It, which will definitely have you tapping your foot with the pulsing guitar and bass riffs and some catchy drumming to top it all off. You'll stick around for the harmonies on this one, though. When the chorus kicks in the first time and you hear those harmonies, it's like that first bite of your favorite flavor of ice cream. Mollie and Orláith's voices blend so beautifully. A song about unrequited love that you will want to have on repeat.
Next we get into Red Button, where you really start to notice the other influences. From the opening guitar strums and vocals, my first thought is "Is this American Country? Irish folk? Rock?" The answer is yes. The magic is in how they blend it all together to sound so good. The prominent kick drum provides a steady rock beat throughout, while the melody and vocals take us on a journey through the sound that is Dea Matrona. At one point in the vocals I found myself thinking, "You know, that sounds a bit like Stevie Nicks," which is a compliment of the highest order.
For Your Sins continues our musical journey throughout the album. From the very funky-sounding So Damn Dangerous to the finale Black Rain, you will be met with a wonderful mix of music that defies you to put it into a single category. An album that weaves a story around relationships - both wanted and unwanted. Dea Matrona has given us something that should be in any music lover's collection. Rumor has it that they are working on a second album, and I certainly hope that is the case. They have already released a new single post-For Your Sins in October of 2025 called Magic Spell, which you can see them perform live here -
